Pro bono opportunity with ձƬ London Law Clinic
ձƬ London is launching a new Law Clinic offering free legal advice to members of the public in Tower Hamlets. We are seeking a number of family and employment law firms to help us pilot this work by providing solicitors for 30-minute legal advice appointments, Client appointments will be attended by Law students, who will then draft legal advice notes for review by solicitors before being shared with the client.
Volunteering opportunity
We are currently building a focused and manageable programme to test the model before scaling up. This is an opportunity to be part of something from the ground up and help shape a new student-led legal advice clinic in one of the most deprived boroughs in London.
Initially, we’re inviting legal professionals to:
- Attend 30-minute online advice sessions with students and clients
- Review and approve final advice notes drafted by students
- Provide brief feedback to support student development
All student interviews, documents, and meetings are handled via a secure system, and data is password-protected. All communication is coordinated centrally—clients never receive lawyer or student contact details directly.
Time commitment
We recommend starting with one appointment per month and will coordinate scheduling around your availability. The clinic runs throughout the year with the exception of Christmas holidays, Easter holidays and the month of August. Advice sessions will be held online.
Training and safeguarding
Students are selected via a competitive application process and receive training in:
- Interviewing skills
- Confidentiality and professionalism
- Key legal terms and procedures in the relevant area of law
All student volunteers sign a Student Advisor Agreement and a Confidentiality Policy. Clients are sent a clear introductory email and privacy notice before proceeding. Legal advice is only provided under supervision and with your signoff.
Person specification
We’re looking for:
- Solicitors with at least three years’ post-qualification experience
- Experience in family or employment law
- A commitment to improving access to justice and mentoring future legal professionals
We especially welcome interest from those based in or connected to East London.
